There are so many great, free resources for teachers to enhance their learning environment. However, as many of us know, it is not guaranteed that these websites, apps, and programs will remain free (causing teachers some understandable anxiety). On a number of occasions here at Teq, we have featured a great, game-based learning and practice platform called zondle. Zondle gives teachers the ability to create and share their own custom question sets and assign these to classes or individuals. One of our favorite parts of zondle is that students then get to choose the game platform they would like to use in order to complete their review questions.

This feature allows students to take control of their learning and get creative in how they practice content. The zondle platform features a number of fun game templates which can assist in keeping students engaged with the ability to personalize their learning environment. This makes it easy to assign practice content for class time, homework, or as a teacher sees fit. Teachers can also monitor student progress with zondle’s gradebook feature, allowing them to provide additional support when needed. Now for the bad news…

Zondle is in danger of closing its doors on July 31, 2015!  In order to avoid this unfortunate ending of this valuable learning platform, zondle is exploring the possibility of a paid, subscription-based option. They have proposed that teachers contribute a total of $8 per month or $80 for a year to keep their doors open. Zondle needs about 1500 teachers to commit to this in order to stay up and running.

I would encourage educators to take advantage of zondle’s free platform as it lasts and consider the option to pay for the service for the upcoming school year.
