As a teacher who has worked with preschoolers, in the general education setting, and in a self-contained classroom, I’ve seen various apps to help reinforce positive behavior and manage student work. These three apps are available for any iOS device including the iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone, and are great for building positive behavior not only in the general education classroom but in the special education setting as well.

1. ClassDojo; FREE

This app allows teachers to give students feedback with behavior specific options. It also allows for teachers to remind students how they need to improve. Parents can get involved in their students’ behavior at school in real-time when they are invited to view feedback their child has received. You can create multiple classes and also collaborate with other teachers that you share students with.

2. The EVIDENCE FOR LEARNING app; FREE

This is a great free app for capturing, managing, and assessing students’ work. I love this app because it will create progress grids automatically that can be applied to any assignment or curriculum. This is awesome because it can be used for benchmarking preschool students or high schoolers. You can also share student work and collaborate with parents.  The Evidence for Learning app comes preloaded with multiple frameworks or you can add your own “I can” statements.

3. Class Act Lite; FREE or Class Act!; $4.99

This app has so many great tools that allow teachers to track students’ understanding as they progress through assignments. Students are color coded which makes it easy for teachers to facilitate learning based on students’ needs.  It’s super versatile as it can be used for various tasks and assignments.  It also allows for teachers to take anecdotal notes and save them to track student progress over time. You also have the option to use the seating plan feature as well as random student generator.
