Brand New! Using Miro in Google Meet

Google has introduced a new whiteboard option that can be used in Google Meet. This new space allows participants in the meeting to take notes, complete activities, and much more while collaborating within meetings. This can be a useful feature while students are participating using their Chromebooks or other devices, during a virtual teaching scenario, or for staff meetings.

Let’s take a walk through how to get started and some of the key features that will let you take your Google Meets to another level!

1. Start your Meet and Miro board

The first step is to start your Meet, then select the symbol with the triangle, square, and circle, and choose Miro. Next, create a board, without signing in, or sign in to your account to save all of the boards that you create. You can invite those participating in your Google Meet to collaborate on the whiteboard space.

2. Using Miro

On the left hand side, you can find the various tools available to use on the whiteboard, such as sticky notes, shapes, text, pens, and more. When you hover your mouse over the tools, you will see that each has an easy keyboard shortcut, for example, to add a sticky note, simply type “s.”

3. Miro vs. Jamboard

So far, you may be thinking that this is very similar to Jamboard, so why would you want to use Miro? Click on the double arrow icon pointing right to find out! There are a number of templates, diagrams, captures of web pages, and more. Take time to explore and practice with the features to see how you and your students can use them for extra collaboration in and out of the classroom. For project-based learning initiatives, students can create boards and stay organized by planning out and assigning tasks with Kanbans, for example.
