Lumio Equation Editor is Here!

Math and science education is most successful when students can get hands-on practice. It’s no surprise then that some of the most popular edtech tools of the last year were ones that focused on or incorporated math and science functionality like graphing, equations, and simulations. There are so many tools out there to help student engage with STEM conent, and one of our personal favorites is Lumio by SMART.
Lumio has plenty of built-in and customizable content that helps students interact with subject-area content. We’ve already discussed the PHet interactive tool available on Lumio, but it doesn’t stop there. Equation editing is now available in Lumio! This new feature is powered by MathType and ChemType and allows teachers to easily create formulas directly in their Lumio lessons ready for students to complete!
MathType and ChemType editors are used across multiple applications, like Microsoft Word, and Learning Management Systems (LMS), like Canvas, so the functionality may be familiar. Having access to an equation editor is important for the correct representation of math and science content.
You can see how easy it is to insert equations into Lumio lesson pages in this video:
While there are plenty of excellent tools for equation building and editing out there, what separates the Lumio equation editor from the herd is that you don’t need to open another application. The equation editor makes it simple to work out even the most advanced mathematical and scientific equations, right from inside a lesson! This way, you can refer back previous lesson content, or even add in a game-based activity. The tool is appropriate for any grade level, whether your students are studying fractions or calculus.
Don’t forget to check out the other math and science features available in Lumio like the Desmos Graphing Calculator and PhET Interactive Simulations. You can also browse the library of pre-built Lumio lessons for plenty of math or science content.
