When Google Slides first became popular, the original design allowed for users to create simplified presentations. Yet over time, Slides has developed into more than just a basic presentation tool. With Slides, you can add animations and transitions on and between slides, but now, you can also add video content without hassle.

Although adding Youtube content may not be new to presentations, in the past, it tended to be a little frustrating. For many teachers and students, if permitted, they could only add video content from YouTube if the school’s inherent protocols made the content available. I’m sure for many of you, the old adage of, “You can use any video you want….as long it is on YouTube” feels all too familiar. 

But as of February 22nd, Google made it so that anyone could use any video content and format including WMV, MOV, MP4, FLV, and MPEG, from their Google Drive account. This change alleviates the hassle of having to get permission for certain videos, and the concern of students having to use their own YouTube accounts and channels.

For those who are new to this, we have provided a step-by-step guide on how you can insert any video into a Google Slide presentation.

How-To Insert Videos into a Google Slide Presentation

Step 1. Click on Insert→Video

Step 2. Go to Google Drive

Step 3. Navigate to find the video and click on it. Then click on SELECT to add it to the slide.

And, there you have it! Now you can use any video you wish…as long as it is on YouTube, or in your Google Drive!
