Google has just recently announced that Google Workspace apps will now be available to all Google users.  Previously, to have access to Google Workspace apps, one would have needed to be a member of an organization such as a school or business.  Now, all one needs is a Gmail account to access apps like Jamboard, Forms and Meet. Here are three ways that parents and other external stakeholders can use Google Workspace.

1. Use Google Forms for planning

PTA meetings are a place where teachers and families come together to plan projects that help schools and students.  Google Forms is an app that can facilitate the planning process for many of these initiatives.  Parents can collect contact information digitally using Google forms, create RSVPs for upcoming events and email them to invitees, or create feedback surveys to get honest opinions from parents and teachers.

2. Use Groups in Classroom

Google Classroom is well known for its functionality as a Learning Management System for teachers and students, but it can be used to manage school groups and create professional learning opportunities for parents too.  Parents and other stakeholders can easily lead after school groups or even use Classroom to lead classes on relevant digital skills helpful in their careers and to support their children.

3. Collaborate with anyone using Jamboard

Jamboard is a great interactive whiteboard space that is now available for everyone as well.  Create whiteboard spaces to collaborate by using real time inking, adding images, sticky notes and more.  This is a great collaboration tool to use during a meeting to brainstorm ideas, or to give your meetings more flexibility while remaining collaborative. Do you have members of a group, club, or organization that can’t be physically present for a meeting? Jamboard makes it easy to let everyone participate, even if they aren’t in the same room. It’s also a great way to record meetings and brainstorming sessions.

These are only a few of the apps that are now available to everyone.  The great thing about Google Workspace apps is that they run in the Chrome browser and can be accessed on any device.  Now that parents and other community members are able to use all of the Workspace apps, the possibilities for collaboration are limitless.  When in doubt, check out the Google Support pages.
